But why so much fuss for a mattress? For the fact, we spend almost one-third of our lives lying in bed. That’s quite some fun time. Isn’t it?
While it is always good to change your mattress every 5-6 years, you can get your old one cleaned instead. Now you may wonder how to clean my mattress all by myself?
Here’s the good news. You don’t need to be an expert to know how to. Here are a few simple steps on how to clean my mattress:
- Vacuum cleaning it: First and foremost, keep aside all your pillows, bed covers and bed sheets. Run your vacuum cleaner on the bare mattress from top to bottom and left to right. Do not leave any section or the edges undone. And of course! Don’t forget to switch it on before you do all that work.
- Deodorize your mattress: This is not just another fancy step to add but important for the cleaning process. Over the time our mattress can develop a unique ‘aroma’ of its own due to our natural smell or sweat. It might go unnoticed as we get so used to it. However, it might not be the case with our guests. To remove the odor, sprinkle baking soda thoroughly over the mattress as we all know it is a natural deodorizer. It will neutralize any stinky odor. Leave it on for 20 minutes. After that, brush it off gently. Remove the excess by vacuuming it. Again, switch on, please.
- Clear stains: Stains can be of any type. The ones that you will usually see on your mattress can be food stain, sweat, blood, vomit, urine, etc. Fresh stains can be removed by rubbing rather pressing the stained area with a dampened cotton cloth or a towel material. Always use cold water as warm water will only set in the stain stronger. For better results, add salt and baking soda in the cold water making a paste and then apply it to the stain. Leave it on for 30 minutes, then brush it off.
So these are some easy steps to be followed on how to clean my mattress. If all of that sounds like a huge load of work for the lazy lads, relax. No need to worry how to clean my mattress. You can always call for professional help. Also, no need to remember switching on vacuum cleaner anymore. Phew!
